The Longport Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Squad are highly regarded as a professional and progressive department. Our mission has always been to minimize the risk of fire and other hazard to the citizens of Longport. To accomplish this mission, the Department responds to and mitigates fires, medical emergencies, hazardous material incidents, floods, boat accidents, automobile accidents, confined space rescues, drowning, and other emergencies as they arise.
These services are provided immediately to any person who has a need anywhere within the Borough of Longport or through Mutual Aid given to our surrounding communities.
The Department and its’ members are community oriented, providing Longport annually with the annual “American Mile“, open house every 4th of July, “ Breakfast with Santa”, “ Santa and the Gazebo Lighting”, Fire Prevention Education, annual participation in the Memorial Day Parade, and specialty projects including; the building of the Gazebo at 35th & the Beach, cleaned up the Longport – Somerspoint Blvd. on Earth Day, standbys for the Longport Historical Society Fire Works and other special events held within the Borough of Longport.
History:
The Longport Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1912 with the construction of its first fire house located alongside the Borough Hall at 15th and Atlantic Avenues. The Departments first apparatus consisted of three pieces; a hook and ladder truck, pumper, and a chemical truck mounted on two wheels with an attached hose reel. All of which were hand drawn. The first Department had 22 members with Chris Frye being appointed its first Fire Chief.
In 1972 Margate City discontinued its Ambulance Service to the Borough of Longport. The Borough purchased its first Ambulance, a 1957 Cadillac from Vineland in 1957 for $ 1,095.00. This marked the beginning of the Longport Volunteer Ambulance Squad.
Types of Services Provided:
The Longport Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Squad provides the Borough of Longport with the equipment and personnel to respond to all Fire and EMS alarm situations, including; fire, rescue, hazardous conditions, good intent calls, and other service calls, as well as non-incident activities, including; administrative duties, department drills, company drills, department meetings, officer meetings, EMS standby, flood standby, weather related stand by, fire prevention inspections, fund raising activities, maintenance drills, public education and community involvement.

Engine 31, Quint 34, Rescue 33, Car 30, Ambulance A-30 & A-31, Jet Ski and water rescue related equipment.
Training:
The Longport Volunteer Fire Department and its members train on Monday nights from 7 to 10 pm at the Fire House located at 2305 Atlantic Ave. Longport and/or out at the Canale Fire Training Academy located off Ocean Heights Ave., Egg harbor Township.
